The primary function of the position is to ensure the integrity and safety of food products throughout the manufacturing process utilizing various standards and established testing methods, operating procedures and adherence to protocols and polices.  The role of the Quality and Food Safety Supervisor is to ensure that controls are in place to meet customer and regulatory requirements for the products produced at the facility.  A critical goal of this function position is to support and assist the Quality Assurance Department and Management Team in all aspects to drive the continuous improvement of quality and food safety. Provide leadership and technical support with an emphasis on consumer requirements, continuous product quality and food safety improvement and productivity.

 

Main Accountabilities:

  • Assist Quality Assurance Manager in the plant QFS Policies and Procedures
  • Will be able to obtain and maintain the following necessary certification: SQF Practitioner, HACCP & PCQI.
  • Manage all lab functions: including waste, purchasing, staffing etc.
  • Back up to the Quality Assurance Manager as needed.
  • Represents the company with on-site customer auditors, third party auditors, food safety inspection/audits and state/federal inspectors.
  • Ensure that customer complaints, concerns and/or inquiries receive adequate responses in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate the plant sanitation program, including monthly internal sanitation inspections with Operations Manager.  Make recommendations to other managers on sanitation issues.
  • Serves as primary contact on all Lab Information Management System (LIMS, SAP, etc.) issues and inquiries.
  • Work with Plant QA/QC personnel and technicians and Production personnel to ensure customer expectations are met and plant inspections are executed according to plan.
  • Maintain QC laboratory equipment calibrations and ensure procurement of all lab supplies.
  • Coordinate collaborative testing and check samples.
  • Review information from suppliers to assure proper product conformance, requirements, and regulations.
  • Assist in managing the facility Food Defense Plan.
  • Developing and maintaining local (plant based) databases for multipurpose use: keeping and saving analytical records, additives reconciliation calculator, automated shift rotation schedule and calendar, etc.
  • Lab supplies and consumables purchasing (by using corporate catalogue database and SAP module).
  • Updates and maintains critical logs; generates related graphs, charts and tables.
  • Maintains and audits records of products and procedures essential for quality assurance, traceability, product recall, sanitation, HACCP, and hazardous waste management.
  • Troubleshoots issues with lab instrumentation, maintenance, and problems that arise with product quality.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry preferred, or equitable practical experience required.
  • 3+ years of position related experience, equivalent combo of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of management experience a plus
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and standards associated with food and feed manufacturing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, written phone/email etiquette skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving, prioritization, time management and organizational skills.
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Ability to give great feedback.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with cross functional teams.
  • Self-reliant, independent; can be quick and decisive, smart and savvy with good ideas and judgment.
  • Flexible, open to change, and can experiment with new solutions to achieve results.
  • Experience in agribusiness or related industry a plus
  • Experience with SAP, SF.com & Tableau a plus
  • Any of the following certifications already obtained is a plus: SQF, HACCP, PCQI.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with special focus on Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
