IMPA – GIS Mapping Interns
The Indiana Municipal Power Agency is a not-for-profit, wholesale electric generation and transmission company located in Carmel, Indiana. At IMPA, we support 61 communities in Indiana and Ohio through providing low-cost, reliable, and environmentally responsible electricity, as well as a variety of other services to help in the overall success of each town or city.  The Engineering division of IMPA Service Corp, a not-for-profit formed by IMPA, assists IMPA members throughout Indiana to ensure quality electric service to their customers.

Our team is seeking two (2) detail-oriented individuals to assist with the development and implementation of a mobile-accessible GIS system and mapping the electric infrastructure of IMPA member communities.  These are paid summer internship positions and will work with engineers located in our Carmel offices.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Progress toward obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • An ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational, business software, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to travel to our member communities, primarily within the state of Indiana and possibly overnight.
  •  A valid driver’s license

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Working alongside our engineers and crew personnel to map the entire system of select member communities.
  • Developing an accurate inventory of the communities’ assets and infrastructure
  • Preparing a list of assets for each member utility, including poles, fuses, switches and circuit conductors
  • Developing maps of each community’s infrastructure using a web-based application and ESRI software
  • Developing software models of electric systems used to perform load flow studies, fault current analysis and system coordination studies
