Position Summary
Do you have a passion for the seed industry and want to gain a deeper understanding into inbred and hybrid corn development? Your main responsibilities will be to work with nursery management and breeding teams to develop and assess new inbred lines. As a member of the local research station team, you will complete an experiential learning project throughout the course of your time with AgReliant Genetics that will make a long term and positive impact on the research division!
What to Expect
In this 12 week developmental internship, you will have a chance to assist with hybrid testing and assessment, seed processing, scouting and note taking. You will be provided job shadowing opportunities in the areas of seed production, precommercial research and commercial sales so they can explore all aspects of the seed business. Throughout your internship, you’ll receive regular feedback, guidance and coaching to help you develop the skills your need to succeed.
What YOU will do:
- Assist the Corn Breeding team and Nursery manager with nursery preparation and planting as scheduling allows
- Work alongside the corn breeding team to make selections in all nursery materials.
- Participate in all summer pollination set up, safety training, pollinating and tear down procedures.
- Enhance leadership skills by supervising seasonal employees during station operations
- Maintain detailed records of nursery operation activities.
- Lead data collection and note-taking efforts in summer nurseries, including but not limited to flowering, inbred observations and disease notes.
- Assists the Corn Breeding team and other stakeholders with the analysis of data, preparation of data reports and preparation of lists for testing and or subsequent generations of development.
- Develop and complete an experiential learning project that combines your interests with impactful needs in AgReliant Research.
- Build professional relationships by being engaged during all assigned tasks, as well as tour and job shadowing opportunities.
- Ensure safety rules are followed at all times.
- Promote a positive image of the company and the research department.

Qualifications and requirements:
- Rising Junior or Rising Senior in college studying an agricultural field
- Interest in corn research is a must!
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Highly self-motivated
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent planning and organization skills
- Ability to plan and manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint preferred) and common PC based software
- Ability to work extended hours outdoors during the entire growing season.
- Must have valid driver’s license and meet MVR guidelines
