Purdue University’s College of Agriculture is seeking a highly motivated and passionate technology enthusiast for the role of Academic IT Specialist. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for technology. They will effectively consult with faculty, staff, and students to identify technology needs related to research, and engagement, while putting their curiosity to work learning and understanding emerging technologies in Digital Agriculture and Agriculture Technology.

 

This is an onsite at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus.

The position has a target salary of $60,100 – $79,975 commensurate with education and experience.

What We’re Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Technology, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Four (4) – Five (5) years of experience in an IT-related field

 

Skills Needed:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with a diverse group of people from faculty to technical partners
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies in Digital Agriculture and Agriculture Technology
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong desire to learn and adapt to rapidly changing technologies
  • Knowledge of information security and data privacy standards
  • Adeptness in problem-solving and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Experience with:
  • hardware maintenance of advanced computer peripherals and networking systems required
  • hardware platforms, infrastructure systems and integration processes
  • Experience:
  • monitoring and maintaining enterprise applications platforms such as Windows or Linux
  • working with vendor customer support on issue resolution

 

Preferred

  • Able to identify and understand core IT to emerging technologies and capabilities that enable academic activities in higher education
  • Experience:
  • implementing and using advanced hardware such as unmanned aerial vehicles, wireless networking technologies, and Internet of Things devices
  • in Digital Ag and emerging Ag Tech
  • working at a university or higher education environment
  • Professional experience in enterprise level networking, including Internet of Things technologies including LoRa and LoRa WAN
  • Micro controller, PCL experience and knowledge of Raspberry PI, Campbell scientific data loggers, etc.
