Overview
Weaver Popcorn Hybrids is looking for a hardworking, motivated individual to assist in the management
of the hybrid popcorn breeding program. The individual will be involved in research and seed production
activities.
Responsibilities include:
• Assisting in the planting, managing, and harvesting of yield trials and research projects
• Seed preparation for planting and quality evaluations
• Assist with detasseling, crossing, tagging, and harvesting of various nurseries and yield plots
• Indirect and direct supervision of seasonal workers
• Oversight of shelling, seed cleaning, drying, processing, treating, and popping
• Assist with basic maintenance of research equipment and vehicles
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements: At minimum high school diploma. Previous experience working in breeding or production agricultural
program is beneficial but not required. Training will be provided. Other requirements include:
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions for extended hours during peak times
• Ability to operate planting, harvesting, irrigation, and quality evaluation equipment
• Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License
• Ability to obtain a certified pesticide applicator’s license
• Experience with basic maintenance of farm equipment preferred
• Ability to travel (7-10 nights per year) for planting and harvest of testing locations
• Basic level of Spanish is beneficial but not required
