Job Summary
The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is looking for an experienced credentialed veterinary technician to manage the Large Animal Veterinary Nursing Team. The Large Animal Veterinary Nursing Manager will oversee scheduling, daily work flow, recruiting, training, and evaluation of the veterinary technicians and assistants in the large animal surgery, medicine, ICU treatment, and ambulatory departments. The right candidate will be confident enough in their medical and patient handling skills to assist on the hospital floor when needed, but the majority of their duties will be related to recruiting, overseeing training, and team member development. As teaching is an important part of the mission of Purdue Veterinary Hospital, the Large Animal Manager is expected to participate in educational opportunities for both the veterinary nursing team as well as the students in the hospital.
All staff members in the veterinary hospital have the opportunity to provide instruction to and support to veterinary nursing and veterinary students, veterinary interns, and residents. Required:
- Graduate of AVMA accredited veterinary technology program
- Must be RVT in Indiana within 12 months of starting employment
- 3 years of experience as a credentialed technician in a specialty hospital or veterinary teaching hospital
- At least 1 year supervisory experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfortable teaching clinical skills and concepts to students
- Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
- Some rotating holiday/weekend on call responsibility
