Job Summary

The Purdue University Large Animal Hospital is looking for enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technicians to join a passionate Treatment Team. The technicians on the Treatment Team work closely with the Internal Medicine specialists and Surgeons, residents and interns in the treatment of intensive, critical and healthy patients. They are responsible for performing physical examinations, drawing venous and arterial blood samples, administrating medications, and assessing patient status. They will assist with the reception of incoming emergencies and diagnostic procedures. The Treatment Technician will have an opportunity to learn and perform higher level technical skills. The Treatment Team will also be be responsible for clean and well-stocked examination and treatment rooms. The Equine and Farm Animal Hospitals function 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Treatment Technicians will rotate through a schedule to best staff the hospitals. Compensation for shift work, overtime and on-call apply.

This posting may be filled at multiple levels (S3 or S4). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

 

S3 requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program

 

S4 requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Two years of experience as a credentialed veterinary technician

Required:
  • Candidates must be registered as veterinary technician in Indiana no later than twelve (12) months after hire date.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Hospital Information Systems)
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Good oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally

 

Preferred:

  • Experience as a registered veterinary technician in a large animal hospital, veterinary practice, or a veterinary teaching hospital
  • Large animal experience in a teaching hospital or specialty practice
  • Previous handling in stocksmanship or equestrian work

 

Additional Information:

  • Will rotate night shift, weekend, day shift, and holiday coverage rotation
