Job Summary

Purdue University is looking to fill the role of Large Animal Surgery Technician within the Purdue Veterinary Hospital (PVH). As the Large Animal Surgery Technician you will be asked to perform various clinical services as assigned including medical nursing, intensive care nursing, diagnostic, and emergency treatment of Large Animal patients. Provide clinical instruction to veterinary and veterinary technology students as necessary. Monitor inventory/supplies, order as necessary, keep exam and treatment rooms stocked. Communicate with clinicians regarding changes in condition of patients. Perform various record keeping tasks. Will rotate night shift, weekend, and day shift duty, and holiday coverage rotation.

S3 requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology

S4 requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Two years of experience as a credentialed veterinary technician

Required:

  • Candidates must be registered as veterinary technician in Indiana no later than twelve (12) months after hire date
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Hospital Information Systems)
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Good oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally
