Technical Manager

  • This position is based in Richmond, Indiana and the incumbent must be based in Richmond, Indiana by Q4/2024.
  • The anticipated start date for this position is mid-2024 and will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
  • A relocation package is available.
  • Work schedule:
    • Monday to Friday.
    • Regular overtime and evening/weekend support as required.

Join us as the Technical Manager

Reporting to the Site Director, you will oversee all technical aspects of the Richmond facility, including technology transfer, process optimization, lab operations, and small on-site capital projects. As the technical leader for the facility, you have deep experience across a range of products and technical disciplines with a focus in fermentation and biotechnology. You enable your team to execute effectively and autonomously in their areas.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage all technical areas of the facility, including:
    • Technology transfer and new customer onboarding
    • Laboratory operations (both fermentation and analytical) and quality control
    • Process performance analysis and continuous process improvement
    • Small on-site capital projects (typically <$50k)
  • Develop the facility’s technology transfer plan and onboarding of new customers with support from corporate process engineering
  • Assess proposed changes in manufacturing processes through appropriate review of documentation and testing results
  • Help drive innovation, process optimization, and the implementation of continuous improvement projects
  • Perform trend and root cause failure analysis for issues that affect product quality and reliability
  • Oversee lab operations, including the fermentation lab, media preparation, analytical lab, and the quality control lab
  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Serve as plant technical liaison to other departments within the site and other business units within the company
  • Help maintain a positive and respectful culture among employees at the site
  • Complete other duties as required

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a relevant scientific field.
  • 8+ years’ experience working in a manufacturing facility in a similar technical role.
  • Previous experience in biotechnology, specifically fermentation, is required.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and technical abilities are required.
  • Working knowledge of quality processes and regulatory standards relevant to biotechnology is required.
  • Experience with tangential flow filtration, evaporation, and spray-drying is preferred.
  • Candidate must be able to work out of our Richmond, Indiana facility on a full-time basis by Q4/2024
  • Self-driven, collaborative, and results oriented
  • Resilient and enjoys the challenges and rewards of working for a start-up; prior experience in a start-up environment is an asset
