Overview

Position Summary: 

Performs a variety of professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records and reports; assists in the preparation of the annual audit and year end closing; and assists with the development and maintenance of reporting system structure and associated processes and internal controls.

 

Duties: 

Transactional

  1. Perform daily and monthly account reconciliations with the use of Blackline software, verify accuracy of data.
  2. Responsible for calculating and maintaining adequate accruals for FDIC premiums, real estate and personal property taxes, audit and compliance fees.
  3. Monitor prepaid accounts for proper amortization periods and recording.
  4. Maintain and enhance the fixed asset and associated depreciation schedules on FAS Software System.
  5. Perform month end close duties as follows: review loan origination fees for proper recording, REIT entries, incentive and commission accruals, 401k accrual, LRA accretion, and BOLI income
  6. Prepare monthly investment transactions.
  7. Record activity for affiliate entities on a quarterly basis
  8. Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  9. Assist with build out of management reporting infrastructure
  10. Prepare quarterly mortgage derivative calculation.

Financial Reporting

  1. Prepare and provide requested documentation for external and internal audit firms and examiners.
  2. Accurately prepare assigned financial statement footnotes.

Internal Controls

  1. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Other

  1. Perform such other accounting, financial tasks as may be required from time to time.
Requirements

 

Relationships/Qualifications:

  1. Responsible to the Assistant Controller for the fulfillment of duties assigned
  2. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  3. Preference will be given to candidates possessing Certified Public Accountant designation or Certified Management Accountant designation
  4. Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required
  5. Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of Statutory accounting principles
  6. Strong analytical and accounting skills
  7. Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office, with specific proficiency in Excel
  8. Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with a high level of difficulty
