POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Process Engineering Expert within Capital Projects will be responsible for leading and managing process engineering projects within our organization as well as process operational improvements. This role will involve overseeing the design, optimization, and implementation of process engineering solutions, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. The Senior Process Engineering Expert will also play a key leadership role, mentoring and guiding junior engineers, operations and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence and achieve project objectives.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Lead and manage process engineering projects, either in capital execution or ongoing manufacturing continuous improvement, ensuring the successful execution and delivery of project objectives including people and process safety input.
2.    Provide technical expertise and guidance to the engineering team, supporting the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of processes.
3.    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, and quality assurance, to drive process optimization and operational excellence.
4.    Develop and implement project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation, ensuring adherence to project timelines and deliverables.
5.    Identify areas of improvement and develop technical scope of work (PFD’s, P&ID’s, Layouts, Equipment Specifications, Functional Descriptions, etc) for defined projects in capital or continuous improvement.
6.    Lead design, bid, project submission/approval, procurement, installation, training, commissioning, and startup/handover while ensuring compliance to budget, schedule and performance expectations.
7.    Conduct feasibility studies for Process Safety and Project risk assessments, identifying potential issues and implementing mitigation strategies.
8.    Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives, utilizing tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Root Cause Analysis supporting operation improvements.
9.    Collaborate with internal and external partners, vendors, and suppliers to evaluate and implement new technologies, equipment, and processes and provide technical feedback to design (for product, ingredient or packaging) to improve standards and solutions.
10.    Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators, and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure project, start-up and operations success.
11.    Support planning and execution of validation and verification of IQ/OQ/PQ activities including CIP, CCP, and OPRP
12.    Prepare and present project status reports, including progress updates, budget analysis, and risk assessments, to senior management and key stakeholders.

 

Leadership Responsibilities:
1.    Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
2.    Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing technical support, training, and opportunities for growth.
3.    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, effectively communicating and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
4.    Lead by example, promoting a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
5.    Make informed decisions, considering the impact on project objectives and aligning with the company’s strategic goals.
6.    Work closely with Product Characteristics Group and Research to develop personal technical expertise and process mastership at the factory.
7.    Coach and build capabilities among all levels in the factory from operators to mechanics to process owners.
8.    Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical support, training, and professional development opportunities.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
•    Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering.  Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.  Advanced degree is a plus.

 

EXPERIENCE:
•    Minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in product/ingredient transformation processes or design firm.

 

SKILLS:

•    Strong technical expertise in process optimization, design, and troubleshooting.
•    Proven experience in leading and managing process engineering projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
•    In-depth knowledge of process engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.
•    Proficiency in utilizing tools and methodologies such as PHA, PSSR, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Root Cause Analysis.
•    Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
•    Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions, considering project objectives and aligning with strategic goals.
•    Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends and advancements in process engineering.

•    Knowledgeable in food product manufacturing including thermal process requirements, ingredient handling systems, control systems, CIP, heat and mass transfer, drying, dry mixing, pneumatic product transport, filling, packaging and validation procedures preferred.

•    Ability to develop sequence of operations for controls automation is a plus.

•    Ability to work off-hours and weekends/holidays as needed.

The approximate pay range for this position is $147,000 to $198,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
