Overview

Position Overview: “SEED” is an acronym for Securing Experience + Employee Development. This is a two-year program where a recent high school graduate, who was also an active FFA member, will be hired on full-time at Co-Alliance to explore the diversity of our cooperative resulting in long-term employment which they find rewarding and fulfilling, while being an integral part of our business. This program is strategically designed for non-college-bound graduates who are ready to get work rather than report to a classroom. They will rotate through all areas of our business (Agronomy, Energy, Grain, Swine & Animal Nutrition and Corporate) to find the place that they can build a promising career in agriculture and energy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Include but are not limited to due to position rotation:

  • Support Co-Alliance’s stated mission, vision, and business values
  • Project a positive attitude to customers and employees at all times
  • Communicate & build relationships with growers, customer, supervisors, and barn owners 
  • Work alongside originator/merchandiser to purchase grain
  • Understand and safely operate assigned equipment
  • Assist with the maintenance of location and equipment
  • Properly complete necessary paperwork and records
  • Assist with scouting, product transportation and various services for producers
  • Safety and OSHA laws & guidelines
  • Swine barn supervision and practice biosecurity measures 
  • Assist with hands on care of swine
  • Grain Grading: learning and applying the USDA grain grading standards
  • Coordinate farm to feed mill needs including operations 
  • Take inbound fuel orders and process them
  • Enter information into accounting data entry system
  • Maintain accounting department files and records
  • Answer, screen, and direct incoming telephone calls
  • Perform general clerical duties including but not limited to filing, photocopying, and mailing
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Passionate about agriculture and a willingness to learn
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work well independently, flexible, as well as with a team, and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Must be willing to occasionally work extended hours and travel within trade territory
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs, stand, sit, walk, climb, and kneel for 8 hours daily
  • Willingness to work outdoors, exposure to elements and odors

Education and Experience:

  • Recent High School graduate
  • FFA membership
