Job Title: Field Research Assistant
Location: Inari Farm, 1532 N 900 W, Wolcott, IN 47995 (35 min north of West Lafayette)
Duration: May 19, 2025 – August 1, 2025
Hours: 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday – Friday
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic high school or undergraduate students to join our team as Field Research Assistants in Wolcott, Indiana. This contract position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable hands-on experience in biological data collection and plant biology, particularly in the areas of phenotyping and RNA tissue collection. This role is ideally suited for individuals with a strong interest in pursuing careers in the life sciences, genetics, agronomy, or related fields.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with field work, including the maintenance of the plants, collection of plant phenotypes and tissue samples for RNA analysis
- Record and maintain accurate data in accordance with established protocols
- Work collaboratively with the research team to ensure timely completion of tasks and project milestones
- Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures, including wearing appropriate protective equipment and clothing
- Perform other related duties as required by the research team, including organizational and in-office duties
Requirements:
- Basic understanding and/or strong interest in plant biology, molecular biology, and/or agronomy
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
Additional Qualifications:
- Enjoyment of the outdoors: Willingness to work in hot, humid, dirty weather conditions
- Among those hired for this role, we are looking for 1 – 2 people to stay on to continue to assist with field and lab work through October 31, 2025.
