CICP’s Research Manager will support the development of a new, organization-wide approach to research aimed at growing Indiana’s economy through the state’s advanced industries. The Research Manager will work under the direction of the Senior Director of Research & Insights and in collaboration with CICP and branded initiative leadership to coordinate and execute projects associated with the advancement of an ambitious vision for the region. She/he requires strong organizational and prioritization skills, analytical capability, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to execute well, work well in a group and under direction, and self-start designated actions associated with a broader project plan. The Research Manager must have a desire to understand the social, political, and economic challenges and opportunities within an issue, feel and demonstrate empathy in the approach to the stakeholders and in the actions taken to achieve the greater outcome.

CICP focuses on economic growth, through the lens of its member CEOs and organizations, that include over 60 significant Indiana companies, seven colleges and universities and three prominent philanthropic foundations. Projects are highly complex and impactful for the region and state, dealing with several layers of stakeholders in the public sector, industry, philanthropic, non-profit and academic sectors. The Research Manager must be capable and willing to build relationships and work across a group of peers and executives within corporate, academic, government, community, and non-profit organizations to gather and analyze information and present it in a fashion that can be easily understood by various audiences to accomplish desired outcomes for regional growth and prosperity.

The Research Manager will work under the direction of the Senior Director of Research & Insights to organize and implement project plans for complex civic and economic growth projects, including projects associated with each of Indiana’s advanced industries as well as projects involving multiple CICP branded initiatives. Projects may involve management and oversight of engagements with third-party experts (e.g., consultants, think tanks, etc.) or be completed internally drawing on the expertise and resources provided by CICP and its stakeholders. The Research Manager will also support the Senior Director of Research & Insights in the development of a shared, CICP-wide research platform that supports the entire organization in research endeavors.


  • At the direction of the Senior Director of Research & Insights, execute tasks associated with research projects of varying types.
  • Gather and assess information, provide analysis (quantitative and qualitative), and present findings in a written memo, presentation or discussion format.
  • Plan, schedule and track project timelines, milestones and deliverables using appropriate tools.
  • Develop foundational and fact-based support for concepts and initial project plans that enable the team to determine next steps and a structured approach to a project.
  • At the direction or in consultation with the Senior Director of Research & Insights and CICP and branded initiative leadership, build budgets, identify key issues, problems, approaches, performance metrics, costs and resources required to execute certain projects in an effective and timely manner.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation in systematic fashion that can be accessed and understood by stakeholders as needed.
  • Organize, prioritize, and carry out multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Develop project materials and presentations for different levels of audiences.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base. Share information with colleagues through formal and information channels.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Senior Director of Research & Insights.


  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experienced preferred.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Proactive problem solver and critical thinker with excellent planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and consultative skills.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
