Position Overview
The Principal is responsible for recommending and implementing operational excellence processes, managing the due diligence processes, ensuring investment reporting integrity, syndicating investments, and portfolio reporting. The position will gain in-depth exposure to venture investing and management as well as a variety of technology platforms, start-ups, and scale-ups.

You will be a key member of our investment team, responsible for driving investment decisions, conducting rigorous due diligence, and actively supporting portfolio companies. You will work closely with our Partners to identify, evaluate, and manage investments across various sectors. This role requires a unique blend of analytical acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to provide leadership and guidance to companies navigating challenging situations.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Assuring the organization is in the strongest possible position to increase its operational effectiveness, influence, and accomplish both its mission and vision. To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform in a satisfactory manner the functions listed below subject to change from time to time at the sole discretion of the company.


  • Work directly with the Partner and Leadership Team to synthesize important Investment Team and market trends to the Elevate Board of Directors.
  • Manage and mentor the Analyst and Associate team members effectively. Invest in their professional development and growth.
  • Communicate directly with our Limited Partner(s) on multiple fronts, including reporting and general stakeholder management.
  • Play a central role in investment decision-making processes, including presenting investment recommendations to the Investment Committee (IC) and Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).
  • Lead key deal-making processes, including negotiating deal terms and syndicating co-investment opportunities with other investors.
  • Assist the Partner with the definition of fund-level priorities and strategies, as well as operational processes and procedures.
  • Invest in the future of the firm, helping to drive the continued improvement of systems, process and infrastructure as the firm grows.


  • Ensure due diligence reports of potential investments are complete and ready for final presentation to the Investment Committee, including but not limited to an understanding of the company, market position, pain point, solution, competitors, team, capital structure, financial model summary, ROI summary analysis, risk identification and other items as may be required to facilitate decision making.
  • Review comprehensive due diligence reports for the investment committee, highlighting the key investment thesis, risks, and potential upside of each proposed investment.
  • Ensure comprehensive due diligence on potential investments, including financial analysis, market research, competitive landscape assessment, and technology evaluation.
  • Assess and recommend deal terms, equity structures, and exit strategies.
  • Communicate, both verbally and in writing, respectfully and factually to companies that are not successful obtaining investment. Offboarding companies is just as important if not more important than onboarding companies for investment.


  • You are expected to be the subject matter expert (SME) on the Investment Team. Be a thought leader, maintaining up-to-date knowledge on industry and technology trends, as well as attending and speaking at events/conferences from time to time.
  • Lead efforts on building investment theses across our key investment sectors – B2B SaaS, Life Sciences, AgTech and HardTech. This work involves deep research on the market landscape and trends driving growth, as well as surveying the startups addressing each market.
  • Lead research of venture capital markets and valuations as applicable.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and market dynamics to provide valuable insights and identify investment opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a deep understanding of the specific sectors within your portfolio, enabling you to offer strategic guidance and mentorship to portfolio companies.
  • Establish relationships with other VC’s that invest in the assigned sector(s) and stage.


  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models and performance metrics for portfolio companies.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates for the firm’s partners and investors.
  • Analyze market trends and industry data to identify emerging opportunities and risks.


  • Work directly with portfolio management teams as a thought partner to decrease complexity and navigate difficult operating challenges.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities to level up our portfolio companies by collaborating with the platform team and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure portfolio compliance with Elevate’s reporting requirements, and provide support to portfolio company growth through value-enhancing initiatives.
  • Serve on the Board of Directors of our portfolio companies.
  • Guide portfolio companies facing financial or operational difficulties, potentially including leading company restructuring and recommending turnaround strategies.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, partners, creditors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to implement effective restructuring plans if needed.
  • Network and syndicate investments with peers at other venture capital firms and other industry partners.

  • Strong communication skills (speaking, written, listening, and presentation skills).

Education and/or Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Advanced degree or investment certification is a plus.
  • 7+ years’ proven experience with significant exposure to the innovation driven companies in venture capital, private equity, investment banking or strong operational experience.
  • Experience conducting due diligence and making investment decisions.
  • Past experience successfully working in cross-functional teams. Management experience is a plus.
  • Market research and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Google Suite and Excel.
  • Proficiency in distilling vast amounts of complex data into cohesive and easy-to-understand Google Slide presentations.
