Position Summary

The Manager-US Indirect Tax is primarily responsible for supervising and reviewing sales & use tax and property tax filings, managing US Indirect audits and identifying and implementing indirect tax saving incentives with the business. This role reports to the Sr. Director, Federal & State Tax and Global Process Owner and will have two direct reports. This position will collaborate with the Sr. Director as well as non-tax stakeholders on all aspects of Elanco’s US Indirect Tax activities and will have a leadership role in implementing and integrating new systems and processes. Applicants should also have demonstrable leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills, particularly given that this role has an integral role in relationship management with external consultants.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate US indirect tax legislation and provide advice on tax issues
  • Conduct ongoing research of applicable tax laws
  • Review and approve all sales and use tax and property tax filings as prepared by third party service provider
  • Serve as key contact for the business as technical expert on various indirect tax issues and questions as they arise
  • Develop and improve indirect tax incentive processes, working with areas of the business to help maximize incentives and communicating expected future incentives to management
  • Handle defense of indirect tax audits, including gathering and supplying supporting documentation and communicating with field personnel as needed.
  • Conduct special projects related to indirect tax activities (i.e. reverse audits, tax exempt certificate collection, etc)
  • Oversee the maintenance of exemption certificates and ensuring requests are responded to on a timely basis
  • Ensuring compliance software is up to date with current laws and legislation
  • Manage all aspects of indirect tax audits including communicating with and resolving disputes with tax auditors, researching tax statutes, preparing audit support, and providing updates and guidance to management on the status of the audits
  • Manage product taxability configurations and system enablement
  • Prepare indirect tax policies and procedures as needed for use by internal and external stakeholders
  • Propose and lead process improvement initiatives to further streamline the overall process
  • Support and develop direct reports
  • Support mergers and acquisitions by ensuring appropriate integration into existing systems

 

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years US Indirect tax compliance experience in Big 4 Public Accounting or multinational corporation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Strong tax planning and research skills
  • Broad knowledge of US Indirect tax planning, compliance, and strategies
  • Strong analytical and multi-tasking skills
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.

Additional Preferences

  • MST/LLM or JD
  • CPA or equivalent
  • Experience with S/4 HANA, Vertex, OneSource software and BNA research programs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and self-management skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and perform job tasks independently

 

Additional Information

  • Minimal travel
  • Overtime will be required at peak times
