Manager Animal Operations

Greenfield Indiana

Manage performance and development of direct reports including supervisors that are working in pre-clinical research while leveraging provided tools. In this role, you’ll define expectations and translate business objectives to direct reports ensuring alignment across business units. In addition, you will drive initiatives to completion by partnering across business areas/sites. You will leverage relationships and metrics in order to establish business area strategies with a focus on capacity, productivity, quality, profitability, and efficiency. This position will require a broad knowledge of multiple business units functions within Early Development Preclinical Research Studies. Inspires leadership team to ensure Signature Client Service through effective relationship building, influencing stakeholders, and removing barriers for others. Common duties include but are not limited to;

  • Foster a culture to report all animal care concerns and becomes involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary
  • Define and ensure operational processes are rigorous and consistent in order to meet business objectives
  • Understands Good Research Practice (GRP) principles, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and translates these into areas of applications
  • Establish quality and productivity metrics, monitors across areas, and make adjustments as necessary
  • Maintains client confidentiality at all times and emphasizes the importance to teams
  • Responsible for identifying business needs, establishing a strategy to address them, and providing support to manage risks
  • Able to identify process gaps and coach others to leverage Process Excellence tools to resolve, may serve as Process Excellence team subject matter expert (SME), will lead corrective action initiatives, ensure corrective actions are applied across work streams as appropriate
  • Proactively monitors the capacity of business unit and adjusts according to demand
  • Identifies business critical rate limiting factors and develops strategic initiatives to ensure business continuity. (ie: succession plans, emergency plans, eBRP)
  • Establish quality expectations and consistency for the business unit (e.g., terms of the inspection process, QC policies)
  • Define employee engagement initiatives and follow through to completion
  • Use data management to drive business decisions
  • This position will have a high degree of client/customer management, including meeting coordination and presentation, coordinator of client outcomes etc.
  • Responsible for the identification of training/development needs and supports the implementation of training initiatives and alignment across teams
  • As a direct manager of people, this position will be responsible for the oversight, monitoring, and feedback of the performance and development of supervisory and technical staff

What we’re looking for in you:

  • BS degree in life sciences or related field in addition to 5 years of related experience. Experience maybe used in lieu of education
  • 2 + years of previous supervisory experience in preclinical (animal) research managing a team of 5+ employees
  • Prior experience with client engagement, and client communication related to preclinical animal research studies is highly preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in capacity planning, interviewing hiring, and selecting employees is highly preferred
  • 2+ years of experience working in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals preferred.
  • Skilled in time management, planning, and budgeting; written and verbal communication.
