POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an exciting opportunity to partner deeply with leaders to develop and support execution of business-enhancing strategies with tangible impact on the Company’s annual and long-term success.  Work with AgReliant’s General Counsel and key stakeholders in protecting the Company’s legal interests and minimizing risk by providing legal advice and support that enables AgReliant’s business objectives in alignment with applicable law, regulations, corporate governance, contracts, and internal policies and with the level of commercial risk acceptable to executive management. In addition to traditional legal work, this role contributes to overall mission by participating in leadership team of assigned business units.  This is a hybrid role working in our Westfield, IN office and from home.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as an in-house generalist, advising on a variety of legal and business matters with primary responsibility in assigned subject matters and/or business areas.
  • Handles complex and sensitive assignments in collaboration with business units; recommends effective strategies and tactics for risk mitigation and legal compliance; advises on legal rights, obligations and privileges.
  • Serves as legal subject matter expert in one or more of the following areas: intellectual property identification and protection, commercial transactions, employment law, privacy, licensing, and/or creditors rights.
  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contract terms to meet business and legal requirements on a wide variety of subject matters, including but not limited to supply, IT licensing, IP licensing, vendors and services, employment, and commercial agreements core to Company’s sales, research, and seed production business functions.
  • Manages pre-litigation disputes, inquiries, and investigations initiated by governmental agencies. Provides legal advice and assistance around compliance and litigation avoidance.
  • Coordinates Company activities, oversees strategy, and manages outside counsel in litigation.
  • Participates in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Develops and leads legal education training to internal clients.
  • Designs, directs, and oversees corporate legal audits.
  • Other duties as needed where legal issues arise in connection with Company’s operations.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in one or more states (Indiana preferred).
  • +Five years of corporate legal or related experience desired.
  • Preferred knowledge and/or experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property (patent and trademark), litigation, creditors rights, or labor and employment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work required hours.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • Some regional and minimal international travel may be required; less than 10%.
