Position Summary
United Animal Health seeks a dynamic Key Account Manager – Swine to drive sales and business growth in the swine industry across the Eastern United States. The ideal candidate, with proven experience in animal health and nutrition sales, will leverage production, nutrition, health, and market knowledge to meet customer needs. They will support United Animal Health products through meaningful customer interactions and cultivate networks that create sustained value for both customers and the company. This role also involves meeting/exceeding sales quotas and implementing strategic business plans for mutual success.

 

Location
Candidates should reside in the Eastern United States, with a preference for those in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, or Indiana.

 

Core Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrate Market and Product Knowledge

  • Demonstrate knowledge of customer challenges, United Animal Health products, and solutions.
  • Apply understanding of production practices, formulation/nutrition, and relevant data to address customer needs.
  • Articulate product features and benefits clearly.
  • Provide services and solutions that enhance customers’ business objectives.

2. Sell the United Animal Health Portfolio

  • Tailor sales approaches based on customer needs and goals.
  • Engage customers with active listening, data-driven discussions, and strategic questioning.
  • Offer meaningful solutions and gain customer commitment through value-driven sales strategies.
  • Conduct follow-ups to ensure customer needs are met and prepare for future engagements.

3. Build and Sustain Valued Customer Partnerships

  • Develop a deep understanding of the customer’s business and key decision makers.
  • Strengthen relationships with internal and external influencers to drive business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with United Animal Health teammates and utilize all available resources to maximize customer value and strengthen partnerships.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries, ensuring customer satisfaction.

4. Business Ownership

  • Analyze market trends and performance data to identify growth opportunities.
  • Create and execute a territory business plan, prioritizing resources and setting goals.
  • Regularly review business plan progress with the Sales Director and adjust as needed for optimal results.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example, managing pressure and conflict professionally.
  • Oversee account forecasts, sales budgets, and promotional spending.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Director and teams to establish sales strategies.
  • Research market opportunities and contribute to product development initiatives.
  • Demonstrate passion for selling and animal agriculture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Work Environment:

  • Majority of work is conducted remotely, with up to 50% overnight travel required.
  • Frequent travel to customer sites and facilities via air and driving.
  • Candidates should reside in the Eastern United States, with a preference for those in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, or Indiana.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Please note that although the following qualifications are preferred, candidates with diverse backgrounds, education, and experiences will be considered for this role.

Education / Training:

  • BS Degree in Agriculture or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Relevant Experience:

  • 10+ years in direct sales (preferred).
  • 5+ years in an agriculture production environment (preferred).
  • 3+ years in business management or sales planning.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of swine economics and sales principles.
  • General understanding of swine nutrition and health.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Non-Technical Skills:

  • Embody the United Animal Health culture and lead by example.
  • Mentor sales team with strong leadership.
  • Adaptable with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, time management, and sales presentations.
  • Thrive in dynamic environments with a goal-driven, energetic approach.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Safety Requirements:

  • Adherence to all company safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture or a related field.
