Insignum AgTech is seeking a talented and self-motivated Plant Research Scientist to join our Plant Biotechnology Research team. This individual will contribute to the leadership of our efforts, performing gene editing, molecular biology, plant transformation and tissue culture techniques, among other responsibilities. Research will be performed on multiple crop species, initially in maize. The successful candidate must be flexible to tackle many challenges as they arise in a fast-moving company. They will contribute to a culture of believing in the possible, without fear of failure in the pursuit of excellence. The successful candidate must be able to perform as an individual contributor and as a team member.


·       Design and conduct molecular biology and cloning projects, vector design and construction, plant gene editing experiments.

·       Perform genomic sequencing experiments and analysis, single-gene expression analysis, and transcriptomic experiments and analysis.

·       Transform plants and handle plant tissue cultures.

·       Communicate results to internal and external stakeholders.

·       At times, may be required to work outdoors to analyze plant phenotypes or participate in field experiments.

·       Supervise junior staff members, such as technicians and interns.

·       Write manuscripts for peer-review, such as journal articles or patent applications, and contribute to grant applications.

·       Work with team members for your and their continuous improvement.

·       Maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.

Key qualifications:

·       Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, Microbiology, or similar field.

·       Demonstrated experience with plant gene editing.

·       Strength in delivering molecular biological results, both DNA and gene expression.

·       Experience with plant transformation, tissue culture and sterile technique.

·       Self-motivation and ability to work independently to deliver results as a team member in a lab setting.

·       Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

·       Ability to work in a diverse team of scientists and associates.

·       Must be legally authorized to work in the US at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Ph.D. + postdoctoral research or >2 years of industry experience.

·       Experience with in-silico software tools.

·       Familiarity with advanced molecular biology techniques.

·       Familiarity with plant physiology.

·       Ability to maintain lab equipment.
