Global Payroll Accountant

Elanco is a global organization that supports more than 40 countries on the Workday platform and integrates data into various other systems including CloudPay, Kronos, and more.

The Global Payroll Accountant, reporting to the Senior Director – Global Payroll, is responsible for providing payroll accounting support to various teams including Elanco Payroll and Accounting as well as to payroll vendors.  Support is provided in the areas of General Ledger (GL) and SAP accounting knowledge and tasks, audit & compliance, system testing and knowledge, and integrations.  The Global Payroll Accountant will serve as the liaison between the customer teams ensuring the highest quality payroll data is entered into SAP and the utmost care is given to supporting processes.  This role will also serve as a primary contact for issue resolution, questions or requests related to activities impacting global payroll in the aforementioned areas.  The selected candidate will work closely with other functional areas to understand impact of changes on global payroll data, processes, and timelines.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:


  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of GL files to SAP accounting system
  • Reconcile GL accounts to payroll records and payments and resolve any discrepancies
  • Act as liaison between Payroll team and Accounting teams to ensure paycodes are appropriately mapped to GL accounts and assist in solving GL posting errors
  • Maintain expertise through the study of existing, new, and pending legislation.
  • Assist in accrual calculations and recording
  • Create, and keep up to date, process flows for payroll data going into SAP, reconciliations, and accruals
  • Function as expert/trainer for payroll team, ensuring understanding of how payroll data and payroll system configuration impacts accounting records
  • Prepare manual GL files, when necessary, and ensure proper documentation is stored for audit purposes
  • Maintain GL account mapping in Workday


  • Perform monthly/quarterly control tasks in conjunction with internal requirements
  • Maintain compliance with company policy, GAAP, internal controls, SOX and local legal requirements
  • Facilities audit requests by providing appropriate and requested documentation and files


  • Partner with accounting, payroll, and vendor teams to ensure complete and timely testing for accounting system consolidation (Project Mustang)
  • Monitor new paycode / GL account setup to ensure appropriateness
  • Lead project team through GL integration testing if/when the process is automated


  • Receive and monitor integration error logs
  • Liaise with payroll and accounting teams to resolve errors

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting or payroll with a preference to those candidates who have a background in payroll accounting
  • Experience documenting processes is required
  • Ability to work with end users to explain processes and provide guidance
  • Ability to work independently and use analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve issues

Additional Skills and Preferences:

  • Experience with both Workday and SAP strongly preferred
  • Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Must be able to work independently, make sound business decisions based on fact and law, and exude confidence with customers
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft excel
  • Strong analytic and diagnostic skills as well as a data-driven and metrics-driven approach
  • Accuracy and thoroughness while meeting customer needs in timely manner
  • Ability to refine processes based on best practices
  • Ability to work across cultures and across diverse management styles


  • This role will be a Remote position due to customers being globally distributed (preference in US, UK, or Poland)
