Job Summary

The primary responsibility for this position will be to coordinate and provide medical/surgical care in Purdue’s state-of-the-art Farm Animal Hospital in the brand new Brunner Purdue Veterinary Hospital Complex. The farm animal hospital service will be responsible for the elective and emergency care of all farm animal species including bovine, ovine, caprine, porcine, camelids, and some exotics.  In general, case distribution for the farm animal hospital is approximately 45% of the Large Animal Hospital caseload (over 2,500 animals per year).  We have a wide-ranging caseload with the predominant farm animal caseload being cattle (primarily beef) and small ruminants.  Teaching of veterinary students while participating in the farm animal service is expected. This position would require an approximately 75% clinical appointment.  The remaining farm animal hospital responsibilities are shared with the large animal medicine and surgery faculty.  This is a one year limited duration position with potential for renewal; benefits do apply.

 

Required:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree
  • Board certification or board eligibility in the ACVS, ACVIM and/or ACVT
  • Indiana licensure and federal accreditation
  • Must be able to work in stressful and emergency situations without direct supervision
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills, and ability to read and write English
  • Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, a passion for state-of-the-art medical care, a strong interest in teaching, and a growth mindset with a desire for continuous professional improvement

 

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with electronic medical records and Microsoft applications
