Key Objectives/Deliverables

As Director – Engineering at our Clinton, Indiana manufacturing site you will:

1. HSE

The Director is responsible for a) improving safety culture, awareness, and accountability within the engineering staff, b) ensuring safety, environmental impact and process safety is an integral part of all engineering tasks, c) driving safe behaviors and timely reporting of incidents and near misses, d) engaging in proactively reducing risks, and e) ensuring that employees are taking actions to avoid personal injury to themselves and others.

2. Developing People
The Director is responsible for a) ensuring that everyone in the department has a performance management plan and a development plan that aligns with individual objectives, department/functional goals and plant site initiatives, b) documenting all aspects of performance for the employees in the department including interim reviews, final reviews, compensations decisions, disciplinary actions, training, compliance, etc., c) providing technical coaching, professional mentoring and career counseling, d) working with Human Resources to resolve personnel issues, e) preparing succession management plans for key positions identified in their department.

3. Manage the Business
The Director is responsible for a) managing departmental activities and aligning resources to meet short-term and long-term business needs, b) ensuring business processes are in place to achieve the day-to-day team responsibilities and performance goals, and c) managing the departmental budget and business plan including the management of headcount, overtime, and departmental expenses.

4. Improve the Business
The Director will a) interact regularly with Elanco Global Engineering colleagues to identify and replicate best practices and to align activities with corporate initiatives, standards and policies, b) meet key objectives aimed at improving the value derived from engineering efforts, c) own the equipment qualification process, d) transform the engineering discipline at Clinton through utilization of first principles, process knowledge and understanding, root cause analysis, mentoring and day to day engagement, e) impact site expenses, change management initiatives, knowledge retention and deviation root cause investigations in a positive manner.

Basic Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering
  • 7-10 years of experience in engineering role
  • Demonstrated ability to influence individuals and teams.
  • Knowledge of equipment Commissioning and Qualification processes.
  • Knowledge of Elanco Quality and Engineering Standards.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing Health, Safety and Environmental Standards
  • Proven experience leading teams focused on process support.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Additional Preferences:

  • Proficient with SAP / CMMS
  • Experience with Process Safety Management
  • Packaging Experience
