Position Summary

The Director – Domestic Income Tax Compliance is an integral role in the global tax department, primarily responsible for leading the preparation and review of all domestic income tax returns, supporting the annual income tax provision process and assisting with income tax audits and planning. Reporting directly to the Sr. Director, Federal & State Tax and Global Process Owner, this role will have responsibility for the development and supervision of two direct reports. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of federal, state and US international income tax in a multinational environment. Successful candidates will have proven leadership and team development experience and strong interpersonal skills.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the US Consolidated federal and state income tax compliance process, including coordination of all international inputs
  • Support the preparation of the annual and quarterly income tax provision process, including supervision and review of the US current tax provision
  • Support Sr. Director on federal and state income tax audits and domestic tax planning
  • Oversee the estimated tax payments process for both Federal and State
  • Manage all processes related to amended income tax returns
  • Ensure efficient integration of acquired companies, proper reporting of mergers & acquisitions, equity transactions, investments, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate US tax legislation and provide advice on tax issues
  • Conduct research of applicable tax laws and draft technical tax and accounting memos
  • Drive transformation of the tax function to scale for growth, which includes people development, process improvement and implementation, and effective use of data and technology
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement focusing on streamlining, improving and automating processes
  • Propose and lead process improvement initiatives to further streamline the overall process
  • Develop strong understanding of Elanco businesses and internal financial systems and tools
  • Collaborate with Sr. Director to train and develop staff to ensure the highest levels of technical expertise, productivity, and employee job satisfaction

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or equivalent
  • 10+ years of progressive corporate tax experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience within a Big 4 accounting firm
  • 5+ years of progressive experience within a complex, SEC registrant company
  • Strong tax planning and research skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and manage critical timelines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

 

Additional Preferences:

  • MST/LLM or JD
  • Experience with SAP, Alteryx, Corptax Compliance software and BNA/Checkpoint research programs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and self-management skills
  • Strong leadership skills, including presenting and training on technical tax topics

 

Other Considerations:

  • Minimal travel
  • Overtime will be required at peak times
  • Worker Type: Flexible = work does not require a specific location or specialized equipment and can work successfully and productively across an ecosystem of different locations to support convenience, functionality, flexibility and well-being. Flexible workers are expected to come on-site about half the time.
