Vincennes University (VU) is accepting applications for the inaugural Director of the Center for Applied Robotics and Automation (CARA). Through support from Lilly Endowment, VU is developing innovative and timely solutions to accelerate key technical skills in Indiana’s workforce to meet Industry 4.0 demands in applied robotics and automation. This position will be a key leader in the creation of the Center for Applied Robotics and Automation, which will serve as a hub for training, certifications, partnerships, and academic curriculum throughout the State of Indiana. This position will report to the President of the University and Vice President of Workforce Development and Community Services.


Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the visionary leader of the Center for Applied Robotics and Automation in order to create a workforce ecosystem that brings together partners across the spectrum to build a talent pipeline for Industry 0 in advanced robotics and collaborative robotics (K-12, Career & Technical Education, Higher Education, and employer partners).
  • In coordination with VU faculty and the CARA Advisory Committee, direct, develop, organize and implement curricula and credentials relevant to Industry 4.0 (specifically collaborative robotics applications for advanced manufacturing technology), including:
    • Academic programming (credit)
    • Industry training (non-credit/industry certifications)
    • Align VU curricula with Indiana Department of Education’s 9-12 pathways for Career & Technical Education (CTE) partners
    • STEM-focused programming for K-8 in partnership with Purdue IN-MaC
  • Provide strong leadership and management skills to coordinate the deployment of curricula and credentials at other VU campus locations (Jasper, Lebanon, Indianapolis) and VU CTE partner schools across the State of
  • In partnership with the CARA Advisory Committee, coordinate and lead industry events aimed at providing employers with demonstrations, workshops and access to emerging cobot technologies, applications and
  • Develop, build and maintain internal and external relationships to maximize business value of partnership to build a pipeline across all applicable geographic regions.
  • Lead efforts to promote and attract students to Industry 0 education and training through activities (competitions, bootcamps, etc.).
  • Define, track and report on key metrics, leveraging lessons learned from successful and unsuccessful outcomes to ensure continuous improvement of new standards/processes.
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan to ensure program
  • Develop and manage budgets.
  • Oversee the Center for Applied Robotics and Automation faculty and staff who will aid in the successful implementation of CARA goals.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics, and/or related
  • 3+ years of project management experience leading large, complex, cross-functional programs and
  • Functional knowledge of industrial/manufacturing value chain – particularly in one or more of the following sectors: advanced manufacturing, automation and/or robotics.
  • Bachelors degree in technology, manufacturing, engineering, or related field OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written and computer skills required; Ability to speak to and interact with a diverse group of
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced fluid environment, overseeing multiple projects and deadlines; must be flexible to changing priorities and have the ability to efficiently multi-task to complete
  • Demonstrated experience building successful partnerships that led to mutually beneficial goals and
  • Willingness and ability to travel to VU sites and partner CTE Schools to assist in the deployment of programming/technology.
