Corteva Agriscience™ has an exciting opportunity for a Computational Biologist. The successful candidate will join a strong, globally distributed Data Science and Computational Biology team that develops and applies innovative methods and tools to deliver insights for R&D. The candidate will join our mission of delivering sustainable crop protection solutions to agriculture. They will partner with leading mode of action scientists to translate computational insights into actionable hypotheses to address and manage pest and weed resistance to novel crop protection molecules. The position will be located alongside data science and mode of action colleagues in Indianapolis, IN.
Responsibilities include:
- Design and execute genomics experiments, analyses, pipelines, and workflows to solve complex biological problems for pest resistance management
- Identify opportunities for innovation and improvements in discovery and management of pest resistance using genomics data
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including lab and field biologists, biochemists, and data scientists to translate research questions into relevant analyses and goals.
- Design and develop new data science tools that link genomic and transcriptomic factors to novel traits and resistance mechanisms
- Communicate the results, interpretations, and conclusions of whole genome sequence analysis and omics data analysis projects, including prediction confidence and follow-up experiments
- Influence adoption of omics strategies and contribute towards their integration in the resistance management framework
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Statistics or a similar field. A strong M.S. candidate with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience can be considered
- Strong experience in Python or R programming languages for statistics or scientific programming.
- Proficiency in computational genomics and analyses of comparative genomics datasets is required
- Experience processing and analyzing large-scale genomics population variation data and whole genome transcriptomics experiments
- Experience developing reproducible analytical workflows using version control and workflow managers such as Airflow, Nextflow
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) is required
- Demonstrated experience in high performance computing and cloud technologies including AWS, Kubernetes.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, flexibility, and willingness to learn.
