Overview:

The Corporate Counsel will provide legal support for the company and its divisions in areas such as commercial contracts and transactions, compliance, collections, and real estate. This position is an exciting opportunity for an early-career legal professional to gain hands-on experience as in-house counsel.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Include but are not limited to:

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage the lifecycle of a variety of corporate contracts.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, providing counseling on legal issues and recommending effective strategies and tactics for risk mitigation and legal compliance.
  • Assist with the management of collection matters, working closely with the Credit team.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and provide clear, concise summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze evolving legal developments, advising internal stakeholders on potential impacts.
  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and practices align with industry standards and legal best practices.
  • Demonstrate a professional, friendly, and approachable demeanor, fostering strong working relationships across teams.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, negotiation, writing, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to view the law from a business perspective.
  • Knowledge of federal and state business laws and regulations.
  • Strong administrative, research, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to think analytically.
  • Ability to work well with internal clients and key stakeholders.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (required)
  • Licensed to practice law in Indiana (required)
  • 1-3 years as a practicing attorney (required)
  • Also licensed to practice in Michigan and/or Ohio is a plus
  • Experience and knowledge of regulatory requirements in business, agriculture, and/or energy (preferred)
  • Experience in analysis, review, and drafting of commercial contracts and managing collections matters (preferred)

 

Must be about to work onsite in the corporate office in Indianapolis, Indiana. (This role is not hybrid or remote).
