Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Category Manager – Direct Fed Microbials (EMEA/APAC) is responsible for defining and driving the strategic roadmap for United’s direct fed microbial products across all targeted species in our globally targeted markets. The role will work cross-functionally with colleagues around the world to identify market opportunities, define value propositions and product specifications, and set and track key performance targets.

As a key individual supporting planned international growth, the role will build a framework for managing microbial active ingredients and associated product lifecycles across global markets. The role will also drive the portfolio lifetime strategy (introduction, growth, maturity, decline) to maximize return on investment and total value creation across the global United core and adjacent markets.

Primary Job Responsibilities / Duties

  • Design and execute a framework for managing United direct fed microbial products lifecycle.
  • Develop a roadmap of value propositions for key established microbial products to further increase their market penetration across species and geographies to increase revenue, profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop a roadmap of value propositions for key established microbial products for leveraging on adjacent markets.
  • Leverage data to understand the performance and potential of the microbial products.
  • Identify areas of opportunity and provide strategic direction to Marketing and Product Management and Sales teams.
  • Become a “voice of the customer” through the lifecycle of the products.
  • Add on innovations that keep the established microbial products continuously exciting to our customers.
  • Focus on value engineering and identify the needs for established microbial products improvements.
  • Become an active member of UAH Product Management team contributing experience in operating in multicultural business environment, international markets, especially in technical business in the microbial category.
  • Oversee the preparation of cost analyses and assist in revenue forecasts for products under development.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure that changes made to new and existing products stay on track and are communicated internally and externally.
  • Determine whether and when to retire or replace a product and plan and execute a successful end-of-life campaign.
  • Recommend selling support materials for internal and external communication of new and existing products within product lines.
  • Collaborates with patent and trademarking to ensure protection of company intellectual property.
  • Build and maintain a 3 – 5 year product road map

Typical Work Environment

  • Execution of this role may be completed in a hybrid manner; in-office and/or remote • Work is conducted in a temperature-controlled office.
  • Travel may be required based upon business need – 25%

Minimum Job Qualification Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition or life sciences

Relevant Job Experience:

  • 6+ years professional experience in product design, management or marketing activities
  • Knowledge of animal agriculture and/or global agribusiness

Specialized Job/Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of product planning and product introduction principles and processes
  • Understands biological products as a category
  • Understands agricultural markets, preferably direct fed microbial products
  • Experienced in “end to end” product lifecycle management, preferable on agricultural market
  • Experienced in portfolio strategy and value-based positioning
  • Experienced in operating in multicultural business environment, international markets, especially in technical business in biologicals category
