Responsibilities : 

  • Build the forecast and secure the resources for all the activities related to the operational execution of nursery work. This includes, but is not limited to, labor, supplies and equipment  
  • Inbred/variety increase planning (spring, pre-Adv, post-Adv) 
  • Update the demand of inbred seed required by stage. Consider traited and non-traited versions of all active inbreds 
  • Review active seed inventory supply to determine planting needs for in-season (summer) and winter plantings 
  • Build the annual nursery planting plan: calculate rows needed, cost of production (internal and external), establish the budget needed and secure all resources 
  • Deliver instructions to seed labs and nursery teams (internal and external) 
  • Ensure compliance of seed quality standards and coordinate seed quality tests on any seed batch without results 
  • Ensure quality data is available and in the right format to be loaded in system of record 
  • Coordinate with other functions any seed hand off and the supporting transfer of records 
  • Supervise and document in the necessary systems any inbred seed discard 
  • Hybrid Make Up (HMU) planning (spring, pre-Adv, post-Adv) 
  • Coordinate with all functions the hybrid seed demand for in-season (summer) and winter plantings 
  • Build the annual nursery planting plan: calculate rows needed, cost of production (internal and external), establish the budget needed and secure all resources 
  • Deliver instructions to seed labs and nursery teams (internal and external) 
  • Ensure compliance of seed quality standards and coordinate seed quality tests 
  • Supervise and document in the necessary systems any hybrid seed discard during the post-Adv process 
  • Collaborate to ensure proper onboarding of inbreds and hybrids brought in from 3rd parties 

 

You Bring… 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Agronomy or related fields required. 
  • Preference is for a candidate with 5+ years of industry experience in breeding, trait introgression, and/or nursery operations. 
  • Knowledge of products, practices, and commercial landscape within the industry. 
  • Extensive experience designing field strategy and conducting nursery work. 
  • Understanding of science relevant to gene editing and of crop production systems including germplasm, traits, chemistries, and general agronomic practices. 
  • Planning skills to organize, prioritize, schedule and coordinate work activities for multiple projects. 
  • A strong sense of purpose and drive to develop unique, high impact solutions. 
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning. 
  • Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failure. 
  • A collaborative mindset that is open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback. 
  • Ability to work both independently and deliver responsibilities within a highly collaborative environment. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals and audiences. 
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate, advise, negotiate or influence others as well as build productive working relationships in a cross functional environment.
