Overview

Primary responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education include leading and recruiting for Huntington University’s agricultural teacher education program.

This position reports to the Director of Academic Programs of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies and works in close collaboration with the Director of Teacher Education and the Managing Director of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies for recruiting activities and events.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lead HU’s program in agricultural teacher education, advise Ag Education majors, and assist with student teacher placement and supervision
  • Teach approximately nine credits of Ag Education courses per semester, plus other courses as needed and appropriately qualified
  • Understand and implement state education standards, broadly and for CTE
  • Attend and coordinate HU student and staff involvement with FFA events at various levels: Chapter, District, State, and National
  • Work closely with the Director of Academic Programs of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies, Managing Director of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies, and the Director of Teacher Education in recruiting Ag Education students and in other joint efforts
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs or the Director of Academic Programs of the Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a strong personal Christian commitment and faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to serve others
  • Must be committed to the mission of Huntington University as a comprehensive Christian College dedicated to educating men and women to impact our world for Christ
  • Demonstrated understanding of Christian higher education, preferred
  • Master’s degree in Ag Education or a B.S. with considerable experience in same
    (doctorate required for tenure) must hold a current teaching licensure for teaching agriculture at the secondary level
  • Experience teaching agriculture at the high school or middle school level
  • Success in engagement with the ag teacher and agribusiness communities
  • Past history of service in FFA or 4-H; experience in agriculture judging events or team management preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work collaboratively with others in a variety of settings
  • Candidates with experience or credentials in International Agriculture, Extension Education, Agribusiness, or Agricultural Economics will be given preferential consideration
