If so Covance by Labcorp has an opportunity for an Animal Care Technician III in our Greenfield IN facility.

Animal Care Tech III

In this position you’ll provide excellent care for both small animals such as rodents and larger animals. Duties include but not limited to:

  • Monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance.
  • Performs weights measures and health checks on animals
  • Performs control checks to include the receipt of new animals; ensures that all equipment, feed, water, and the animal quarantine room is set up and meets company standards.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of animal feed and bedding storage areas in accordance with regulatory requirements. Monitors environmental conditions and reports deviations to supervisor.
  • Maintains well documented laboratory records according to SOPs. Reviews other animal technician data and identifies potential problems.
  • Collects data – manually or by appropriate computer software – and maintains well documented laboratory records according to GLPs.
  • Performs quality controls and other reviews of other animal caretakers’ data and identifies potential problems.

Has intermediate knowledge about animal behavior, training, and reproductive concepts, knows the animals of own area well, handles them in an affectionate way and gives immediate rewards. * Provides animals with food, water, toys etc. according to company standards, handles them solicitously and is particularly careful when catching them. Able to set up group housing and uses positive reinforcement training for routine tasks

  • Monitors and documents animal condition and behavior, environmental conditions and instrument settings, reports peculiarities as well as deviations from study plan or SOPs to supervisor, study director and/or veterinarian and performs appropriate corrective actions as assigned and documents them.

Work hours requirement, working 6:30 am to 3:30pm Monday-Friday and every 3rd weekend, some overtime will be necessary. Due to work requirements we are not able to accommodate candidates that are unable to work this 6:30am-3:30pm schedule

High school diploma or equivalent, candidates with degrees in Biology or related life sciences programs encouraged to apply

AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable

Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Prior experience working in a cleaning role or working with animals is preferred
BS or BA degree in Life Sciences, or High School diploma/equivalent and 18 months appropriate laboratory experience
College level courses may substitute for one year experience
Experience may substitute for educational requirements
