Position Overview:
TerraForce is seeking a highly motivated Agricultural or Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. This role involves the design, development, and integration of mechanical and agricultural systems into advanced robotic farming platforms.Applicants must have direct, non-academic on-farm experience and a bachelor’s degree or higher from an ABET-accredited institution. Applicants with degrees in technology fields will not be considered for this position.
This role requires a hands-on mindset and a solid foundation in both mechanical and agricultural systems. Ideal candidates will demonstrate technical competency, practical experience, and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement mechanical and electromechanical components for agricultural machinery and robotics.
- Apply engineering principles to solve real-world agricultural challenges.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, and field teams to ensure integrated system performance.
- Participate in field testing, troubleshooting, and iterative improvement of robotic systems.
- Analyze and document system performance, contributing to continual refinement and optimization.
- Communicate findings and propose solutions grounded in engineering analysis and practical experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Demonstrated non-academic experience working in a hands-on capacity on a farm.
- Ability to operate farm equipment or heavy machinery.
- Strong mechanical design and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems commonly used in agriculture.
- Willingness to participate in fieldwork and engage with end users (farmers).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience integrating hardware into robotic or automated systems.
- Familiarity with sensor systems and data collection tools in agricultural environments.
- Exposure to ROS, embedded systems, or control systems is a plus.
- Understanding of agronomic principles and how they apply to equipment design.
