RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Scouting

  • Examining crops for pests and growth stages
  • Advise Red Gold of field Status
  • Advise Growers of Production needs

Advise Growers

  • Field & Equipment techniques
  • Soil & Fertility testing
  • Spray Needs
  • Post Pack evaluations

Greenhouse Supervision

  • Inspection of growing plants
  • Tray Counts

Assist in Varietal Development

  • Conduct Test Plots
  • Coordinate Experimental Field Trials

Miscellaneous Projects, as assigned

  • Property and grounds maintenance (mowing, weed spraying)
  • Snow-plowing
  • Various other projects
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 4 year degree in Agriculture preferred
  • In lieu of a four year degree, 5 or more years of field experience will be required
  • Exposure to computer, accounting, and management classes
  • 2 years’ experience in Agriculture – farming, fertilizer, seed, or chemical sales
  • 1 year supervisory experience
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) – employment not contingent upon certification, but will be a requirement to work towards certification while working at Red Gold

Indirect: Growers, scalehouse and grading personnel during fresh pack

While performing the duties of this job:

  • The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time whether that be sitting or standing
  • The employee must be able to use fingers to constantly operate a computer or other type of office equipment
  • The employee in this position must be able to regularly walk
  • The employees must be able to use hands to handle and feel
  • The employee must be able to reach with both hands and arms
  • The employee must be able to visually detect, perceive, or recognize in near and far distances
  • The employee must be able to converse or convey with other individuals
  • The employee may occasionally be required to crouch
  • The employee may occasionally  lift/carry items as heavy as 25 pounds

Other:

  • Able to travel 3-4 days/week during the Spring months – frequent overnight travel
  • Available to work a flexible work schedule
  • Able to commit to extended hours during pack/harvest season.
