Overview
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising the proper setup and barn environment for incoming weaned pigs
- Manage the load in and sort down process upon pig arrival
- Train, implement and supervise early weaned pig care
- Ensure inventory control, documentation and reporting procedures with growers
- Manage the health and medication strategy for barns under your supervision
- Train, implement and manage proper animal welfare procedures and protocols
- Direct and supervise established vaccination program
- Communicate marketing and scheduling needs through the grow out process
- Oversee selection and loadout procedures at marketing
- Collaborate with other production supervisors on pig care/start up protocols
- Work hours necessary to be successful and travel as needed
Experience and Skills
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in ag related field is preferred: or a combination of education and/or experience
- 2 years of experience is preferred, but not required for the right individual
- Understanding of swine production and sound animal welfare practices
- PQA certification required within 30 days after hiring
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain successful relationships
- Ability to trouble shoot pig health and environmental conditions
- Capable of working and communicate effectively within a team environment
- Clear understanding of proper animal comfort and welfare requirements and the ability to communicate those requirements to growers
- Excellent organizational and time management skills that allow the ability to work within strict time frames
- Ability to work without supervision and make appropriate decisions
